Looking at the title, you may ask, how did what happen? Good things that appear to be Godly versus good things that are truly of God is illustrated wonderfully in this chapter. This chapter goes back into the book of Genesis and outlines several things that could be easily missed.
It’s interesting to see how this chapter focuses on Revealed Knowledge versus Communicated Knowledge. Which type of knowledge do you think is best? If you say Revealed Knowledge, you’re correct!
We (as believers) can only gain Revealed Knowledge from reading the word of God, quieting ourselves in prayer, in church, receiving a vision from God, or encountering the Word of God revealed to our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
On the other hand Communicated Knowledge comes by merely hearing or reading someone else’s statements about what they’ve heard from God. The Communicated Knowledge may be accurate, but if the Spirit doesn’t reveal it to your heart, it can be distorted.
Going back to the book of Genesis, the enemy’s goal was to get Eve to turn on her Creator (God) by undermining her perspective of God’s Character. WOW!!! The enemy wanted Eve to believe that God was withholding something from her (the Forbidden Tree).
Unfortunately, Eve was deceived and consequently fell into transgression. The book of James is one of my favorite books in the Old Testament and I love James 1:16 – Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
It doesn’t matter how good something looks or appears, if something is contrary to the word of God (in opposition), it will ultimately be detrimental and bring sorrow to your life. WHATEVER IS CONTRARY to the WORD OF GOD will be DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR LIFE. There’s no way around it.
