“As a young man, before I met Jesus, there were behavioral patterns in my life I couldn’t put aside. I regretted my recurring hurtful, prideful, and lustful behavior, but the more I tried to free myself, the more frustrated I became. I was hopelessly bound and subject to sin’s domination. HOWEVER, once I was crucified with Christ Jesus, I could begin to live free.” – John Bevere
The quote above seems very similar to my earlier years of life. (See Romans 6:6-7)
As you accept Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him! Let your roots grow down into him and let your lives be built on him. We must have a foundation! We must be serious about committing our life to Christ so that we don’t possess a spiritual nature that is corrupt or evil.
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. – Proverbs 14:12
As believers, we must be serious about denying ourselves. This is not optional! This is MANDATORY. (See Mark 8:34-35)
“It’s impossible to follow Jesus without denying our self (forsaking our own ways and embracing His supreme authority) and taking up the cross (incorporating is empowerment to talk away from sin and the world’s system). The life we now live is by faith in His ability working in and through us. We draw from Him. What a GLORIOUS package of salvation God has provided us!” – John Bevere
I loved how this chapter also explained how Jesus is not only our savior, but he is our LORD! Lord is the position he holds as the king in our lives. Savior is the work that he has already done for us. A lot of times we know Jesus as our savior, but tend to put his Lordship on the backburner and at times don’t even acknowledge it.
We cannot partake of the benefits of his work unless we comes under his position as Lord in our lives.
God Bless you.
